Why don't more traders in the financial markets recognise the many other trading opportunities that are out there. Many of those alternative markets are a lot more fun to trade too!

I really enjoy trading the Forex markets, but I'll also trade just about any other market including stocks and shares, commodities, cfd's and sports, in fact I'll trade any market with good liquidity, and where I have a good chance of coming out ahead in the long term.

You've probably guessed that I love testing and evaluating trading systems. Even more, I like trying out, developing and evolving systems to the point where I am totally confident that it they make me appreciably richer. I don't care where the system comes from, and in what market it operates, so long as it operates for me, or I can twist it to my requirements and make it work as I would wish.

Recently a friend suggested that I trade race horses. Now - I don't ever go to horse racing tracks, and I used to think that people who loved horse racing betting were crazy - why would anyone bet on something as uncertain as horse racing where the least problem (weather, a cold, a stumble, even a loud bang) can cause a disaster?

To be frank with you, I thought nobody could possibly win money betting on horses. Just too many intangibles.

Well I'm happy to say that I have changed my mind. I love a challenge and recently I have been looking seriously a whether I should consider trading the horse racing market (as a trading exercise - you understand), and I have been converted, I now think that it is possible to win money big time in this market, just so long as you have the right data and the right betting system.

The internet supplies me with the statistics, (much more data than I can cope with), and the problem is not in finding the data I need to design a profitable system, but to discard the nonsense and retain the useful information I seek.

This is a HUGE multi billion dollar industry and a lot of people make a good living supplying and managing this information. It's all good, useful stuff too, but all I want is the smallest amount possible that still leaves me able to trade at a profit.

Recently I found a very useful web site which reviews the top horse racing betting systems and links to over 30 other web sites offering low cost (most less than $100) horse racing wagering systems. At that site I located and invested in several horse betting systems that all seem to give me a good edge both for on-the-nose and place bets.

I also recently discovered the magic of the online Bet Exchange, where I can bet against other punters like myself on an equal footing (and avoid paying the bookie's massive financial premium). By using a Bet Exchange, I can bet on a horse to win or to be placed as usual. Less commonly (but very usefully), I can now take the bookie's place and "lay" horses to lose.

I've obtained a "Lay Betting" trading system at my favorite site and been testing and practicing it with good results.

So now I have several horse racing trading systems at my disposal, all of which give me (according to my calculations anyway) a statistical probability of winning over the long term. Now, when things are slow on the financial markets I can dabble with my horse racing gambling systems and make a few dollars there too.

Mind you, I do prefer to think of this activity as trading and not gambling, and interestingly - although I have still never been to a race track and rarely watch the races on TV - the whole process seems a lot more fun than Forex Trading.

So come on you boring financial traders, drag some fun into your trading life, explore the world of Horse-Trading!

Did I really say Trade Horses? Well, I'm sure you understand me!
