In the film, New York is randomly attacked from a monster the size of most of their skyscrapers! The film chooses to focus on the struggle of a few people who were on their way to a party. The special effects in this film are spectacular and Matt Reeves had managed to produce an action masterpiece. However, for those of you that suffer from motion sickness the jerking of the camera and busy filming style may leave you feeling ill. The plot is not that great but then films of this genre do generally focus on action rather than the story. However, to enjoy this film you have to just sit back and relax. The film is intense at times and some of the scenes may give some people nightmares. The story and the eventual ending are predictable but that adds to the enjoyment of the film. There is very little dialogue between the characters other than distressed shouts. There is little romance and i would suggest that most girls would probably not enjoy this film for a number of reasons, in particular the intensity. There is some humour but it is scarce, however, in a film that relies on tension and suspense in the audience it would be inappropriate to have humour. This film lacks a distinguished cast but the acting that is required is performed adequately. Ultimately, this film is unlikely to win an Oscar or be remembered as a classic but it is a watchable film and is likely to achieve some box office success and quickly be released onto DVD but probably not worth buying because it is a short film. This film is probably most suited to teenage boys who are keen to prove that they do not jump at loud noises!
