The time that is invested in any business project is probably the most valuable commodity in that project. The reason for this is that time is not recoverable. Once you have spent an allotted period of time it is no longer available for use. With the value of time recognized it is necessary to discover ways to conserve it. When you learn to use your time in a constructive manner you are able to produce better and free your time for personal use.

When you recognize the number of distractions that face you during the day it becomes obvious that the ability to ignore them is of prime importance. A learnable method to control these distractions is to focus. Develop the habit of being able to focus on the task at hand will greatly improve both the quantity and quality of your production. Remember that the ability to focus is a learned discipline and the longer you work at it then the better you will be.

When it is obvious that you need to focus you also should be aware of your purpose. Open your business plan up and re-read the goals you have set for your business. Print these goals out on a large piece of paper and tape it to the wall above your monitor. The ability to glance at these goals will constantly give you a reason to focus. Giving yourself this constant reminder will give you the will to avoid distractions and get on about production.

The ability to focus on your current project gives you the ability to affirm your control over your life. Just for a moment dwell on how many distractions you will be able to eliminate if you are seriously in focus with the task as hand. OK enough of that, get back to the task at hand! With focus you understand and are able to reaffirm your importance to what you are doing and the rewards the finished product will bring you.

A problem arises when you engage in a business demanding multitasking. Just how do you determine what is the most important and what will wait until tomorrow, or next week, or maybe doesn’t need to be done at all? This is a prime example of why you must learn to focus and let it become a habit. When you multitask you, by definition, are in the middle of many projects in many different areas at once. By doing this you spread yourself very thin and very little gets done. Instead of quality work in one area you begin to “dabble” and the result is minimal completed work.

If you have a habit of multitasking then it is probably a good time to prioritize your day. Back to basics, make the list and work by it. In doing this properly you again give yourself the chance to focus in one area which will create a momentum which will give faster and better results. Choosing to become focused produces quality and this quality will give you a sense of accomplishment and the success it creates.
