A positive mindset is the means to find the good in others, feel confident about the things you do, and the ability to speak in an optimmistic way. Being positive is a mindset because it is not something that comes naturally, but has to be engraved in your mind. You have to work at being positive on a daily basis, and training your mind to be positive really never ends.

Humans have to think about doing things. We have to remind ourselves to brush our teeth every day, or take the trash out on Sunday nights. Being positive is not different. You must constantly remind yourself to be positive. So, how does this positive mindset apply to a child in middle school?

Being positive is a verb. It is something that you do. Take a test as an example. You take a history test and do not get the grade you were hoping for. It may be a disappoint, but with a positive mindset, you can decide that you will study harder and try harder when the next test comes around. You are looking to the future and how it can be better, instead of dwelling on what cannot be changed.

Role models provide much of the training middle schoolers need to have a positive mindset. While people cannot be positive all of the time, there are probably a few individuals that you can think of who are positive most of the time. Study these people's behaviors...even ask them questions. In fact, if you dig way down, you can probably think of the times that you were positive and try to remember how that made you feel.

To practice ways of being positive, you might try to get rid of excess stress and worry from your life. Whatever it is that makes you feel stressful, like taking a test, talking to new people, etc., instead focus on the ways to turn those situations into a positive experience. Visualize yourself as handling these situations in a positive manner.

Hearing yourself speak is another way to practice being positive. Find a mirror and talk out situations that could be a challenge for you, and speak to yourself about ways you can those challenges to be positive. For example, you may tell yourself often that you are just not good a good skateboarder, but you really want to be good at it. Tell yourself, by looking in a mirror, how you can become good at skateboarding through practice and possibly even instructions from a professional. Get yourself geared up and excited.

You are growing, and this means that you will make mistakes, but you can learn from them. Don't look at mistakes as a smack on the hand. It only means that you have to work on smething a little harder, and once you have corrected yourself, you will be a better for it. A positive mindset is a way of life, if you let it be. The choice is yours.
