The coastal city of Perth is located in the south-west corner of Western Australia and boasts some of the country's most exceptional beaches. The sun, sand and swimming are all part of the perks - alongside the popular national pastime of surfing.
Perth's immense coastline and multitude of fantastic beaches is more than a little daunting for any visiting surfer, but finding Perth hostels in the best beachside locations is half the battle to taking full advantage of the Sunset Coast's prime waves.
Western Beach Lodge
The only stones tourists are likely to find near the perfect Scarborough beach may well have been thrown from the windows of the Western Beach Lodge, which is located just a short hop from this popular sandy spot.
However, while we don’t recommend throwing stones from the windows of Perth hostels to test their proximity to the coast (!), taking advantage of the facilities and freebies at the Western Beach Lodge is a must.
Tourists bedding down for the night are not only right next to local amenities, but are also offered access to DVDs, a BBQ area and a surf and boogie board loan centre.
Ocean Beach Backpackers
Located on the brink of Cottesloe Beach with excellent views of the huge expanse of the Indian Ocean, this hostel is an excellent place for surfers, albeit some way from the main city center.
Easily found on the Perth hostels map, this coastal hostel includes features such as bike and fishing rod hire, free surfboards and body boards as well as a big screen movie and XBOX room.
Beatty Lodge
Although the Beatty Lodge is located somewhat further away from the sea than the other two Perth hostels, it is but a short distance from the city center and offers a range of facilities likely to appeal to backpackers interested in a little more than just surfing during their visit.
It has its own swimming pool for those days when the beach is off the cards and offers 24-hour hot showers and a travel desk along with car parking for those with their own transport.
